Various studies give the same result: most of our fellow citizens care about military action in the East of the country and their own poverty.
Worse than poverty is only war
The most important problem in Ukraine is the war in the Donbass – this is the study of the Kiev international Institute of sociology, said two-thirds of respondents. In addition, the three main issues included the standard of living (54%) and economic situation in the country (42%).
Of all of the identified problems, least of all Ukrainians are concerned about the status of the Russian language in Ukraine (2%) and relations with the European Union (4%). And issues such as the annexation of the Crimea, the revival of the Ukrainian nation and the relationship between the citizens of various nationalities of concern to 5-6% (see “Research”).
The study authors noted that, compared with the period of 2016-2017 years, the concerns of the citizens of the war in Eastern Ukraine and the economic situation has slightly decreased (in previous years it bothered more than 70% of respondents), but still remains extremely high. Because worse General and chronic poverty can indeed be a just war.
Earlier, a similar study was conducted by the Sociological group “Rating”. Here, the authors went a little different route and separated the state from personal problems. The results were quite revealing and demonstrated once again that, as the proverb goes, charity begins at the body.
So, if the most significant state problems the respondents called the military action in the East (78%), corruption (55%) and unemployment (29%), rating of personal problems led the socio-economic – higher prices (54%), the increase in tariffs (54%), low wages and pensions (51%).
– All three main “personal problems” Ukrainians can be combined into one – the decline in living standards, commented on the results of the study economist Andrew Martyniuk. – Even after doubling the minimal salary and the average and minimum wages in Ukraine remain the lowest in Europe. The prices and rates continue to rise.
That money Ukrainians are sorely lacking, indirectly confirmed by official statistics. According to state statistics, in the first three months of 2018, the income of Ukrainians in the total 657,9 billion UAH. and spending 679,9 billion. The conclusion is obvious: Ukrainians savings melt away and in just three months has reduced by 22 billion UAH.
The research group “Rating” showed that among the main problems every tenth Ukrainian calls social stratification. Experts are already not the first year suggests that in recent times our country lives like two parallel realities. In one of them (the eyes of the officials) the economy and wages grow, and the country is a bold step in the direction of the EU. In another reality (through the eyes of ordinary citizens) more than half of the population lives below the poverty line. And the gap between the very rich and very poor is growing literally every day.
Economists say that social stratification in Ukraine is not simply becoming inadequate and cynical forms (remember the multimillion-dollar bonuses to the management of “Naftogaz”), but will continue on. For example, due to another increase in the cost of housing services the rich will continue to become richer and poor to become poorer.
