The semi-final matches of the women’s soccer tournament will provide delicious entertainment. Neighbors and longtime rivals, the United States and Canada will meet in the first semifinal of the Tokyo Olympics. Both teams did not have the best seasons yet, but they managed to fight their way through their opponents in the quarterfinals. The United States and Canada defeated their opponents in the quarterfinals, the Netherlands and Brazil, on penalties.

The United States women’s national team is often the favorite for any tournament. His dominance in the world of soccer has garnered a lot of attention over the years. However, by winning just one game so far in the tournament, the United States national team has shown signs of vulnerability, one that Canada will seek to exploit.

Canada did not do wonders either. Their goalless draw against Brazil in the quarterfinals was not the ideal result. The penalty shoot-out could have gone either way and they were lucky to pass. This time, however, Canada will have additional motivation to outperform their rivals. Canada’s thirst for redemption from the United States should be the ideal starting point. Having won bronze in the two previous editionsYes, a final appearance is what Canada hopes to achieve.
The United States has the best-known players compared to the Canadian roaster. From Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe to Carli Llyod and Lynn Williams, the United States women’s team has a brilliant attacking lineup. But unfortunately, this legendary group of players has failed this tournament, scoring far fewer goals than expected. The reference to a must-have rivalry should help them get their shooting boots back.

EXPECTED UNITED STATES ALIGNMENT: CLOSER; O’HARA, DAHLKEMPER, SAUERBRUNN, DUNN; HORAN, ERTZ, MEWIS, WILLIAMS, HEATH, LLYOD
The Canadian team is not weak either. Although not as well known, your roaster has the ability to win this match. The presence of 38-year-old Christine Sinclair in the attack zone will be the focal point of the team.
I LOVE THIS TEAM SO MUCH 😭❤️🔥🇨🇦
Thank you for all your support Canada! SEMI OLYMPIC HERE WE GO 🤩🥲 pic.twitter.com/lYKlFsIF63

CANADA’S EXPECTED LINEUP: Labbe; Buchanan, Chapman, Gilles, Lawrence; Quinn, Fleming, Scott; Sinclair, prince, Beckie
Twenty-five-year-old Canadian center-back Vanessa Gilles was a deciding factor in helping Canada advance to the semifinals. The Bordeaux center-back’s single comfortably defended many of the Brazilians’ attacks in the quarterfinals. Canada’s lack of goal scoring ability is a problem for the national team. However, Canada’s willingness to deny space and defend as a unit will be crucial against a United States team that is able to flow freely in attacking football.
Gilles will need to be at his best when facing his semi-final opponent. Although his neighbors don’t seem to be playing their best football, his talented roaster is capable of hitting a goal out of nowhere. Gilles and his defensive skills will be crucial to Canada’s dreams of an Olympic final.
Although Alex Morgan scored just one goal and performed below her standards, she is still expected to be the one to change the rules of the game in the next match. Whether it’s a starting role or one from the bench, Morgan’s ability to lead an attacking unit, create opportunities and throw shots is a useful asset to the national team.
With various attacking options like Carli Llyod, Lynn Williams, Tobi Heath and even Megan Rapinoe, the national team can juggle their players according to the game plan. However, Alex Morgan’s ability to power strike units is a capability they would need against a compact and deep Canadian team. Will he again fire the United States to the final like he did in 2012?
The United States has the advantage heading into the game. The story, the face-to-face and the form are in your favor. But, his lack of cunning in this tournament has exposed vulnerabilities in the team. Although Canada does not have the same talent scale as its rivals, its ability to play as a team could well be the deciding factor. FootTheBall predicts a win for Canada. United States 1-2 Canada.
