From the first songs it became clear that to focus on one genre, they do not intend to.
Exactly 45 years ago, on 13 July 1973 debut album by British rockers Queen. The name of the album coincided with the band’s name that was very common among musicians.
Then the young rockers are faced with a serious problem – none of the recording Studio didn’t want to take over their songs. After almost a year of fruitless search for the Queen has signed a contract with EMI.

The album was successful in the UK charts, but international recognition is not received. Moreover, Queen drummer Roger Taylor and is called the debut album failure. Of the 10 songs there is not one that you could call a worldwide hit. Most popular songs – Keep Yourself Alive, Liar and The Night Comes Down.
– Quite a lot of the songs on our first album we had before, songs that we had played together at concerts, such as “Keep Yourself Alive”, “Liar”, “Great King Rat” and so on. We just played them. And we just went into the Studio and recorded them. And there was one or two songs that were created in the Studio. For example, “My Fairy King” Freddie wrote during the recording of the album. At the same time, as I said, there were some songs that were live recordings … with superimposed backing vocals and guitar solos on top – said in an interview with the bassist of Queen, John deacon.
The main complaint of critics to the Queen album is that it turned chaotic. Songs are recorded in different genres – from heavy metal to folk. Many noted the imitation of the style of Led Zeppelin.
But perhaps the stylistic throwing in the first album was not accidental. Queen wanted to show that they are not going to get hung up on one genre. Indeed, the major hits of the group are sometimes radically different from each other. Take Bohemian Rhapsody, which combines Opera, ballad singing a Cappella and heavy metal. While We Will Rock You – classic stadium rock.
