A Boisbriand restaurant closed for ignoring COVID

The owner of a restaurant in Boisbriand which was urgently closed by the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux because of repeated breaches of public health rules says he will do everything to comply.

“I am not a recalcitrant,” said Yves Da Silva, owner of the Fogo Euro-Lounge. Obviously, we made mistakes and we will do everything to correct them. We will submit an action plan to the Régie and we hope to satisfy them. ”

His establishment was summoned urgently before the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (RACJ) after numerous breaches from the end of June until the end of last week were noted by the Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse- From Blainville.

Customers seen dancing or not wearing their masks to move around the restaurant, lack of physical distancing, crowded terrace, employees who do not wear masks and goggles or who do so poorly: the list of reproaches is long.

If Mr. Da Silva says that several problems have been corrected over time, especially with eye protection, others date back to the end of last week, when the restaurant still did not keep an official register for all its customers.

Salsa evenings

The Fogo Euro-Lounge also had to cancel the weekly salsa-themed evenings in mid-August, because customers could not help but dance next to their tables. But he never installed a dance floor, assures the owner.

“The police found about fifty people standing on the terrace less than a meter away. Some of them danced and consumed alcoholic drinks, reports the notice of convocation of the RACJ. A DJ was on site and encouraged people to dance by shouting into his microphone: “Everyone, hands in the air!” ”

According to Yves Da Silva, it was “against nature to play police” with customers, but he admits that he will not have the choice to be more severe.

He hopes that the Régie will not be too severe in the sanction because he could be pushed into bankruptcy and that “times are hard” in this environment.

“This is the first time in 15 years of operation that I have found myself before the Régie. […] There has not been a single case of an outbreak in Fogo, ”he maintains, saying he is motivated to make all the necessary corrective measures.

The emergency hearing for the Fogo Euro-Lounge will be held on October 1 at the Montreal courthouse.
