American Airlines has contacted republican senator from Texas Ted Cruz, a close relative of Donald Trump, to remind them of the rules after he was photographed without a mask on board one of its aircraft.
“As we do in this kind of case, we have examined the details of this case, and although our policy does not apply when a passenger eats or drinks, we contacted senator Cruz to affirm the importance of this policy as part of our commitment to protect the health and safety of travelers,” said the press service of American Airlines.
A photo posted on Twitter by a passenger shows the senator, cup of coffee and phone in hands, but the mask is not visible.
“To help promote the security, senator Cruz wears a mask during his travels, and practice social distancing when possible”, assured the AFP a spokesman for the senator.
According to her, “in accordance with the policy of the airlines, it is temporarily withdrawing the mask when he eats or drinks”.
“Yesterday, during the flight, he removed his mask to drink, and returned it after. We all need to practice common sense to slow down the spread of the viru”, she added.
“For the well-being of our customers and our team members, we require that the masks are carried on board, and we expect our clients to comply with our policies when they choose to travel with us,” insisted his side American Airlines.
When questioned, the company refused to say on what flight Ted Cruz was traveling Sunday and it was actually a mask before and after drank his coffee.
In the United States, wearing a mask became a matter of policy. For the first time since the beginning of the health crisis, the president, Donald Trump has agreed Saturday to wear one in public during a visit to a hospital.
Many scientists called on american policymakers to make evidence of exemplarity, then, that the pandemic will regain momentum in the south and west of the country.
In Texas, the republican governor Greg Abbott has itself made compulsory the wearing of masks in public places, a measure against which he had long resisted.
