A desperate mother

Sur les pas d’une mère désespérée

As far as we can remember, the writer-French-Claire Castillon has never been shy for us to shake it one way or another. White march is the perfect example.

For those who have never read the novels or story collections by Claire Castillon, a caveat is in order : incredibly clever to describe in a few words the daily often glaucous of its characters, this writer French always finds a way of shoving or tournebouler its readers. This is also true for this very short story, which portrays a mother whose small daughter was kidnapped 10 years earlier the outcome of a game of hide-and-seek.

On January 23, 2008, in a park almost deserted, Hortense has found, in spite of the best hiding places : the arms of a man ill-intentioned, which have swept away so far from her parents that no cop has never been able to find it.

A finger of the madness

As you may have guessed, such a tragedy will not be forgotten from one day to the next day. Despite all the time passed, the father continued to paste posters everywhere in the region. As to the mother, not a second goes by that she does think to Hortense. It’s simple, it see it everywhere. And not just in his head ! The day when new neighbors move into the house across the street, she was quickly convinced of one thing : the 14-year-old who just moved to the other side of the street may not be his daughter.

A story that devours the jaws tensed. Because the more one knows, the more one will be afraid to discover the final word on the matter.

Spirit, are you there?

Just like in the first opus of the series, Konrad will be found quickly with the other two cases are totally different on the arm. The first will concern directly his father who, many years earlier, was assassinated with blows of knife in front of the gates of a slaughterhouse of the city of Reykjavik. A murder that has never ceased to haunt Konrad and which, thanks to the intervention of a spiritualist, might be finally to be elucidated. As to the second case, it is infinitely more sad : a young girl who would have drowned in 1961 in the lake of Tjörnin without anyone knowing more about the circumstances of this drama.
