Arrested while he was hospitalized automatically, this 32-year-old schizophrenic man had been wanted for more than a year for fraud. His criminal record already has about thirty mentions.
A drug addict suspected of selling to his dealers information extracted from the police and the gendarmerie by posing as one of theirs, has been placed under judicial control, announced this Sunday the prosecutor’s office of Roanne (Loire).
Arrested on Wednesday while he was hospitalized automatically, this 32-year-old man had been wanted for more than a year as part of an investigation for “fraud aggravated by the undue taking of the quality of person depositary of the police force “, said the prosecutor of the Republic of Roanne Abdelkrim Grini, confirming information from the regional daily Progress.
Presented on Friday for immediate appearance before the Roanne Criminal Court for facts recognized in police custody, the suspect asked for time to prepare his defense.
Originally from Vaucluse and living in the Saint-Jean region for the past two years, the thirty-something, who suffers from schizophrenia, was brought back to the Lyon Saint-Jean de Dieu psychiatric hospital pending his trial set for February 12. He faces seven years in prison.
A heavy criminal record
In a state of legal recidivism within the framework of a conviction for extortion, his criminal record has about thirty mentions. The man had passed himself off for the first time as a Lyonnais police officer at the Roanne prison in order to obtain information on a detainee, specifies the prosecution. It was then that an investigation was opened.
He then managed to deceive the vigilance of law enforcement officials from a cell phone by using the appropriate professional jargon. Police officers from the Rhône but also from Perpignan or the gendarmes from Nîmes paid the price.
Described by investigators as “intelligent and particularly clever”, he said he used this confidential information as a means of payment to drug traffickers.
Arrested last summer for a robbery with violence in Aix-en-Provence, he was then declared criminally irresponsible and hospitalized automatically but continued his game from the hospital, which allowed investigators to locate him.
