The Quebec Patrick Pichette was appointed to the head of the board of directors of Twitter, announced the company on Tuesday.
This former Google already had on the board of Twitter since December 31, 2018 as the senior independent director.
“Given the strength and depth of the management team and the board of Twitter, we believe that it is the right time to evolve our governance structure,” responded the principal person concerned in a press release.
The Québec takes the place of Omid Kordestani, who has resigned from his position Monday. The latter remained on the board of directors. “Patrick has been a strong voice and independent within the council and it is the right person to assume this role”, he commented.
Mr. Pichette arrived in the post then that Twitter is in turmoil. The social network has undertaken to moderate the tweets of us president Donald Trump. Some tweets of the tenant of the White House were subject to notices indicating that they are “glorifying violence” or contain “facts ” doubtful”.
Mr. Trump had quickly responded by signing a decree aimed at weakening the legal protection enjoyed by social networks vis-à-vis the content published on these platforms.
Patrick Pichette is a veteran of technology companies. Notably, he was chief financial officer of Google from 2008 to 2015, before leaving his position in the optical to devote more time to his family.
