A Quebec mission

Un Québécois en mission

Mikaël Grenier is one of the very few Quebecers to run full-time outside of America.

After a career in single-seater, the driver of Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury has redirected his career in car grand touring, where he was able to draw its pin from the game in recent years, particularly in Europe.

Grenier was again recruited by 2020 by the Team Emil Frey, which he reached on Monday, to compete in the World Challenge Europe, formerly known under the name of Blancpain GT.

“If I could fly to Switzerland, which is based on the team, it is that I have a work permit that allows me to stay there, he explained in a telephone interview with the Journal de Montréal. I’m going to take again the hand in me training on a simulator. “

Four races postponed

The pandemic of the COVID-19 has already served the report of the first four tests listed on the initial schedule.

“Testing pre-season could take place as early as next week in Italy, said the driver, 27-year-old, either at Imola or Misano. Everything is, however, subject to confirmation. “

Because of the containment in Europe, the events will be held behind closed doors until 31 August at least. The first steps should be presented on July 25 and 26 at the track in Imola.

Sprint and endurance

The GT World Challenge, which attracts most of the car manufacturers prestige, includes sprint (running one hour) and endurance, both with the driver changes.

The Classic 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, in Belgium, is certainly stop the most important of the year. His departure has been shifted to 24 October.

“With or without spectators, to mention Attic, it will indeed take place. “

The other endurance races shall be for a term of three or six hours, depending on the circuits that will be visited, including the Nürburgring (Germany), Zandvoort (the netherlands), Paul Ricard (France) and Barcelona (Spain).

Competition raised

It is at the edge of a Lamborghini Huracan that Grenier will participate in the fortnight of racing now scheduled in the calendar. His car is prepared by the same team that gave him four victories in 2019 and the second rank in the final classification.

“There is only a single category (GT3), which makes the competition very strong, he said. To us, it obviously wants to roll forward, but it, it will not be easy. “

Attic will have as teammates the Austrian Norbert Siedler and the Swiss Richard Feller.
