The Metropolitan Opera has broadcast 35 operas, since 16 march, on its website and on its application. La Tosca, The merry Widow, Tales of Hoffmann and La Traviata will be the works featured over the next few days.
The sixth week of the broadcast will be launched this evening with Elektra of Richard Strauss.
This opera, written at the beginning of the 20th century by the austrian composer is a contemporary reading of the Greek myth of Electra. This tragedy, in one act, starring the soprano Swedish Nina Stemme, takes place after the Trojan war. The production, under the direction of conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, was registered on April 30, 2016.
This opera is the last scene of the director Patrice Chéreau, who died in 2013.
Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini will follow on Tuesday. The soprano Bulgarian Sonya Yoncheva plays the role of the singer Floria Tosca. A woman who is the mistress of Mario Cavaradossi, a painter who decides to help a detainee policy in the run. This opera was recorded at the Met on 27 January 2018.
On 22 April, we will be able to see the great Anna Netrebko in The Tales of Hoffman by Offenbach. This production, under the direction of conductor James Levine, recorded on December 19, 2009.
The opera The Merry Widow (The merry Widow), Franz Lehar, will be released on April 23. The american soprano Renée Fleming personifies the widow Hanna Glawari.
The Traviata of Verdi, registered on April 14, 2012, will be presented on Friday, April 24. We shall find the soprano French Natalie Dessay in the role of Violetta, and the great baritone Russian Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
