The ban on the sale and purchase of all types of firecrackers in Alsace will not have prevented a tragedy. 25-year-old man died with “his head blown off” after handling a mortar-type firecracker in the middle of the street in the night of Thursday, December 31 to Friday, January 1, on the occasion of New Year’s Eve, indicates the prefecture.
The accident occurred in the town of Boofzheim, near Benfeld, in the Bas-#Rhin. The exact circumstances of the tragedy are not yet known. Another youngster, aged 24, was seriously injured in the face. He had to be hospitalized.
Three other people slightly injured
On New Year’s Eve, three other people were injured in the Bas-#Rhin because of firecrackers in the municipalities of Eschau, Mutzig and Bischheim. At least one of them had a finger torn off.
