Tipped to be the first choice of the next draft of the national hockey League, Alexis Lafrenière has answered almost all the questions imaginable about him in recent months. A wind of freshness has seemed to blow on his face when he was invited, during a videoconference, to give his opinion on his teammate Zachary Bolduc, without doubt the next big star of the Océanic de Rimouski.
“It is a very good player, he has proven this year that he was able to make a difference, first pointed Lafrenière, about the man who was named rookie of the year in the League the Quebec major junior hockey last week. I think it will continue to improve for Zachary. It has very good years ahead of him. It’s going to be a dominant player for the ” Oceanic.”
Put in the perfume of the comments of his famous team-mate, Bolduc showed himself first flattered, then he has taken out, in his turn, the censer.
“It is touching and really pleasant to hear it, responded the rookie of the Océanic, who is in confinement at the family home of Bécancour. For me, Alexis is a good example to follow. He is serious in what he does and he puts his concentration to the right place. It was a chance for me to play with him.”
Getting to 16 years
Lafrenière has a duty to assist Bolduc when he took the decision to join later in the Océanic in October, not without having first felt the pulse of the american side with the Academy of Mount St. Charles, in Rhode Island.
“When I saw it happen, I could see myself a little in him, assured Lafrenière. When you get to 16, it is sure that it is difficult, but it has done really well to this.”
“It is sure that it was a little weird at the beginning because I arrived and the season was already started, but I think I’m well integrated in the team”, was himself on trial Bolduc, a former Booms of Three-Rivers, at the midget level AAA.
A good duo on the special units
In 55 games with the Océanic, Bolduc concluded the season with 52 points, including 30 goals. He has hit the target 13 times in numerical superiority. And, surprisingly, Lafrenière has collected one assist on eight of those goals on the power play and, despite its absence during the world Championship of junior hockey. Bolduc was also fuelled by Lafrenière on his only goal shorthanded.
If it is true that one learns best, the table is set for Bolduc, today 17-year-old, in order to continue the tradition of excellence in Rimouski after the Vincent Lecavalier, Brad Richards, Sidney Crosby, and… Alexis Lafrenière.
