BURLINGTON, On. – A woman of 60-year-old was fatally struck by a truck in front of a slaughterhouse pig in Burlington, Ontario.
Regan Russell was in the process of giving drink to the pigs to the meat processing plant of pork Fearman’s Pork Inc., when she was struck by a truck carrying pigs on Friday at around 10: 20 pm.
The truck has been immobilized so that a team of the Unit of reconstruction of the collision to the police was investigating the accident on site, reported Friday the site InsideHalton.com.
A dozen protesters remained at the scene for a vigil.
Anita Krajnc, co-founder of the group Toronto Pig Save, mentioned the victim, a resident of Hamilton in the sixties, in glowing terms.
Activist, vegan, Russell was for a world vegetarian, told Krajnc, stating that his group would continue to defend the cause of which was believed the victim.
Sofina Foods, the parent company of the factory Fearmans, who is said to cooperate with the police regretted the death of the activist.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the [victim] and his family. It is a tragedy and we extend to them our sincere condolences”, said Daniele Dufour, senior director of communications.
The police said that no charges have been brought “for the moment”.
