Kalani and Azuelu made their 90 day groom debut in season 6 of the flagship TLC series. They met while Kalani was on vacation in Asuelu’s home country of Samoa, and he was working at the resort where she was staying. They quickly became pregnant and in January 2018 they had child # 1, son Oliver. Shortly thereafter, they began the process of obtaining a K-1 visa for Asuel so that he could move to the United States and they could become a family.
Almost immediately, Kalani’s family was skeptical about her relationship with Azuelu, and the situation worsened when Kalani learned that she was pregnant again and was expecting child # 2 from Azuelu shortly after he arrived in America. Asuelu was able to earn the blessing of Kalani’s mom, Lisa, and father, Lowe, promising that he would come up and provide for his family of four, and the couple got married during a romantic sunset boat ceremony in California.
The couple went on to talk about their journey in season 5 of the show. 90 Day Fiancé: Forever? Kalani and Azuelu struggled to agree on money and their relationship. Kalani also felt that Asuelu was not fulfilling her role as husband or father as she struggled to adjust to being a mom of two, giving birth to her son Kennedy in May 2019. During a particularly heated quarrel, Azuela called Kalani a “bitch.” “- which upset her family and they no longer supported their marriage.
Kalani decided to stay with Asuelu to solve their problems, but they faced another challenge when they visited the Asuelu family in Washington. During a trip that took place during the 2019 holiday season, Asuela’s mom Lesina and sister Tammy forced him to send money home to his family in Samoa. At the time, Asuelu was working part-time at a local grocery store and struggling to provide for his family of four at the time, but Lesina and Tammy felt that Kalani was the reason Asuelu was reluctant to help them financially.
The fight for money peaked when Tammy and Lesina confronted Kalani, and Tammy threatened to “beat Kalani”. The quarrel led to an altercation between Kalani and Azuelu, and before they returned to their home in Utah, which they share with Kalani’s parents, Kalani admitted that she no longer wants to marry her husband.
She changed her mind after they returned home when Asuelu agreed to go to the couple’s consultation. The therapy seemed to have helped, but the couple were on the brink again when the coronavirus pandemic peaked in the United States in the spring of 2020. Kalani felt that Asuelu did not adhere to the principles of social distancing and put his children, her mom and dad in danger. so she sent him to live with his mother and sister for a few weeks.

They even wanted to buy a house so they could move out of Kalani’s parents’ home, and they felt it would help save their marriage if they ended up in their own home.
But the couple realized they couldn’t afford to move, which led to even more stress as they were also struggling with intimacy issues. Kalani tried to express her wants and needs, which led to a big fight, and Kalani even consulted with a divorce attorney to discuss her options.
