The project “Ballerina” is the brainchild of American photographer Shitagi Dane (Dane Shitagi). This extraordinarily beautiful project lasts for 15 years and has more than 1,000 unique images showing the elegant dancers in the urban context. This is not the usual “dance photo”, a collection of portraits that transmit feelings and emotions are extremely talented dancers, many of whom dance in the most famous theatres in the world. Shitagi draws inspiration from the atmosphere of the city, creating a wonderful contrast between the graceful figures of the dancers, frozen in technical positions, with the rough bustle of street life.
For a long time Shitagi was shot on traditional film camera and in 2012 switched to digital photography. He also significantly expanded the geography of the project and now shoots around the world. Now the project “Ballerina” is perhaps the most popular Internet resource dedicated to ballet, with hundreds of thousands of fans on social networks.
