The first choice of the Toronto Blue Jays in the last draft, Austin Martin, agreed with the team and will be training camp.
This is what was stated by the manager of the formation of the Queen City Charlie Montoyo on Thursday, i.e. 24 hours after the 21-year-old has signed his first contract with the professionals.
“I can’t wait to see it play out and see what he can do,” said the officer during a video conference.
“I am delighted that he joins us, he also expressed. I can’t wait to see the stick, to the front-field and all. It seems that he is a player very exciting.”
Martin, a shortstop, is recognized for his talents at the stick. In 2020 in the NCAA, he hit 20 balls in a safe place, in which three circuits, in 16 parts. The Jays had selected with the fifth choice in total.
“The more we have collected information about him, the more our group was excited,” said Blue Jays general manager, Ross Atkins, in a statement released Wednesday. His will and his desire to be a great player are what made him an ideal candidate for us. Combined with its profile offensive and its versatility, we could not be more pleased to formally make him a Blue Jay.”
We still don’t know when Martin will join his new team-mates. The training camp of the team in toronto is running since last Monday.
The Blue Jays begin their season 2020 on July 24, in St. Petersburg.
