Bordeaux: Eight-month suspended prison sentence against former deputy Benoît Simian, for harassment of his ex-companion

The deputy leaving the 5th constituency of Gironde (ex-LREM), Benoît Simian, after having been largely defeated in the legislative elections on June 19, was condemned this Thursday at; eight months suspended prison sentence by the correctional court of Bordeaux, for acts of moral harassment against his ex-companion. A sentence of eighteen months imprisonment with a probationary suspension of three years had been imposed. required on March 25 by Deputy District Attorney Rachel Bray.

During the hearing, the Deputy Prosecutor recalled that“ there were multiple complaints [from his wife] to counting from the summer 2020, for damage, home invasions, theft… Multiple interventions by law enforcement ». The facts took place between July and November 2020 and during the summer, justice decided; of a protective order that prohibits Benoît Simian to present himself at the his former home. His ex-wife is also equipped with a « telephone grave danger ».

The deputy prosecutor had also asked for three years of ineligibility; but the court did not accept this request, considering that the facts have no connection with his former mandate. Benoît Simian has ten days to appeal the decision.

In addition to this case, Benoît Simian is also accused of by a collaborator for having forced her to sleeping in the same room as him and having multiplied intimate messages at the end of 2020-beginning of 2021. The Bordeaux prosecutor's office has opened an investigation.
