After having been criticized by the president of the United States, the quarterback of the Saints New Orleans Drew Brees has decided to respond to Donald Trump by posting a note sent on his account Instagram.
Before delving in the letter from the pivot 41 years of age, it is necessary to understand where this controversy originates.
While the United States are the scene of demonstrations to denounce the systemic racism, Brees indicated that he had difficulty with people who do not respect the american flag and he found that it was a lack of respect for his two grandfathers who have fought in the Second world War. It has been strongly criticized for this comment, and then confused by the apology. It is at this time that Trump has decided to add his grain of salt.
“I’m a big fan of Drew Brees. It is really one of the greatest quarterbacks, but he would not have had to go back on its position with regard to compliance with our beautiful american flag. […] We should stand tall and great, ideally with a salute or a hand over the heart. There are things about which we may protest, but not our great american flag – NO KNEE on THE GROUND”, had written the colorful american president on Twitter on Friday.
Recognize the problem
In his note, Brees has now wanted to make it clear to Trump that it was a matter much more important than the flag.

To @realdonaldtrump Through my ongoing conversations with friends, teammates, and leaders in the black community, I realize this is not an issue about the American flag. It has never been. We can no longer use the flag to turn people away or distract them from the real issues that face our black communities. We did this back in 2017, and regretfully I brought it back with my comments this week. We must stop talking about the flag and shift our attention to the real issues of systemic racial injustice, economic oppression, police brutality, and judicial & prison reform. We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history! If not now, then when? We as a white community need to listen and learn from the pain and suffering of our black communities. We must acknowledge the problems, identify the solutions, and then put this into action. The black community cannot do it alone. This will require all of us.
“After having discussions with my friends, my teammates, and leaders of the black community, I realize that it is not a question of the american flag, has expressed Brees in the letter posted on his account Instagram. It never has been. We can use the flag to discredit people and distract from the real issues faced by our black communities.”
“We really need to stop talking about the flag and we need to focus our attention on the real issues, or the systemic racism and the economic oppression, the brutality and judicial reform, has added the fourth. As a member of the white community, we need to listen and learn from the pain and suffering of our black communities. We need to recognize the problem, identify solutions and take action. The black community can’t do it all alone. This will require each of us.”
