CDC Come to Mind: Vax Up, Mask Up, Stomp That Virus Flat!

Today we have taken a couple of important steps in the fight to prevent the Delta variant of the coronavirus from increasing (more, more) in the US The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to Announce changes to your guide on wearing masks indoors, and recommend that everyone, including fully vaccinated people, wear a mask in parts of the country with high rates of COVID-19 transmission. The new guide will also recommend that all public school teachers, staff and students wear masks when public schools reopen this fall.

So in California, the governor. Gavin Newsom announced that all state workers must show proof that they have been vaccinated or agree to be tested weekly. You know, for public health and tyranny.

Masks for everyone, in some places

The CDC will announce all the details of its new masking recommendations at a press conference at 3 pm EDT, but the basics were leaked to the media earlier today by “people familiar with the matter.” The guide will call for masking of all public school students and staff, and will recommend indoor masking of all people in COVID hotspots to stop the spread of the Delta variant. It will also recommend that vaccinated people wear a mask if there are unvaccinated children or immunosuppressed adults in their homes.

The CDC had announced in May that fully vaccinated people could stop wearing masks indoors entirely, but that unvaccinated people should continue to wear masks. Unfortunately, and extremely predictable, too many unvaccinated people took that as a sign that they didn’t need masks either, which is the way we’re seeing spikes where vaccination rates are low.

The Washington Post also informs the the new orientation was driven in part by

new data showing that vaccinated people infected with the delta variant have the same viral load as unvaccinated people who are infected, according to three people familiar with the data. Vaccinated people are unlikely to become seriously ill, but the new data raises questions about how easily they could transmit the disease, all three people said. Such transmission did not occur significantly with earlier variants.

Albert Ko, an epidemiologist at the Yale School of Public Health, said in an email before the CDC announcement that the finding of similar viral loads between vaccinated and unvaccinated people would suggest the need for a change in targeting for vaccinated people. “There are several hurdles in logic to pin down (duration of viral shedding is one), but the finding, if rigorously tested, would be worrisome,” Ko said.

The post office It adds that the administration considers primarily that the greatest risk comes from unvaccinated people who transmit Delta, and that vaccinated people still play a “very small” role in its spread. [Rebecca would like to point out that if they still aren’t sure, and they really couldn’t be if there’s no longer any contact tracing to speak of, and also particularly since they’re not tracking Delta infections that don’t result in hospitalizations, they should probably stop making proclamations like that.]

Newsom: Don’t let Fox News kill you, please

As noted by Stephen in his Vaccine Mandate Summary, the Governor of California. Gavin Newsom announced yesterday that the state will require all of its 246,000 employees, plus at least two million healthcare workers, to show proof that they have been vaccinated or undergo weekly tests for the virus. The The policy for state workers will go into effect on August 2., and testing will roll out gradually over the next several weeks.

And beginning Aug. 9, the broader policy will begin for healthcare workers, as well as staff in congregated settings such as nursing homes, homeless shelters and prisons. Health centers will have until August 23 to achieve full compliance. Unvaccinated personnel must agree to be tested “at least” weekly and wear personal protective equipment. Here’s Newsom announcing the new policy; He had some very select words for the right-wing media that have been spreading fear, uncertainty and doubts about vaccines:

We are exhausted by the ideological prison in which too many Americans live. We are exhausted by the Ron Johnsons and the Tucker Carlsons, we are exhausted by Marjorie Taylor Greenes, we are exhausted by the right-wing echo chamber that has been perpetuating misinformation about the vaccine and its efficacy and safety.

We are exhausted by the politicization of this pandemic and that includes wearing masks that have been equated with the Holocaust. It is a shame. It is inconceivable and must be called. More and more is being called and I want to acknowledge it. And I want to applaud, in particular, the Republican leaders who have had the courage to speak out.

Newsom added that, to help people get reliable information about vaccines from healthcare providers they trust, the state will be reimbursement for medical practices Up to $ 55,000 if they establish community-based vaccination sites in their offices, as well as a host of other vaccine outreach programs and clinics at barbershops, colleges, universities and trade schools, houses of faith, and even McDonalds restaurants and amusement parks.

Newsom had absolutely no respect for people who want to spread a deadly virus in the name of “individual freedom”, because like Catalina, no man is an island:

It is a choice to live with this virus and, with all due respect, you do not have the option to go out drinking and driving and putting everyone else’s lives at risk. That’s the equivalent of this moment with the lethality and efficiency of the Delta virus. You are putting other people’s lives, innocent people at risk.

Newsom also noted that the longer people believe in misinformation from right-wing experts, the longer it will take to safely reopen schools and businesses. Ever a gentleman, he didn’t point out that getting back to normal was what Republicans said they wanted last summer, but are now absolutely against doing the one thing it takes to get there.

Not surprisingly, being singled out as an indirect disease vector doesn’t sit well with Marjorie Taylor Greene, who called Newsom the leader of a “communist dictatorship” for taking “shameful” measures to protect the been with most small businesses in the country. (California must be very bad at communism).

Newsom I wasn’t having any of that nonsense nor, saying that Greene’s rhetoric has been far worse than “shameful”, has it been “murderous.”

Shameful? Here’s a word: murderer.

Your lies against vaccines are literally killing Americans. Your own fans are following you off a cliff into the ICU.

Trust vaccines – they save lives.

So empty yourself if you can, and if you’re in an area with a high rate of COVID transmission (the CDC will get specific later this hour), put on those masks when you’re indoors in public. And hey, why not be sure and do it even if you are not? We will go through this.
