In association with our friends at Clearlight Saunas

We’ll carry an infrared heat solution anywhere we can get it – in a yoga class, in our local infrared sauna studio, or wrapped up in an infrared sauna blanket. But having a sauna at home is the true dream.

Some of us at Goop who have stepped in like Clearlight Saunas, including the GP: “I do an infrared sauna as often as I can,” he says. “I leave feeling much more relaxed and radiant as well.” Clearlight saunas use True Wave heaters, which combine ceramic and charcoal infrared heaters for the best of both worlds. (Ceramic heaters produce hotter heat, and charcoal heaters produce infrared waves that penetrate deeper. Together, they are calibrated to a specific heat level that is intended to optimize the way the body heats up and sweats.) Furniture grade Canadian cedar and linden. exteriors are treated with a VOC-free finish. And the saunas are fully equipped – Bluetooth and AUX inputs mean you can safely play music or your favorite guided meditations from inside the cabin. You can even turn on your sauna from your phone to preheat on the way home from work, or set it up to be ready for when you wake up in the morning. Each sauna comes with a lifetime guarantee. They are also beautiful to sit on.

If you are lucky enough to be in the market, the challenge is choosing the right model for your space and your needs.

  1. The compact infrared sauna

The Clearlight Sanctuary 1 plugs into a standard wall outlet, and because it measures less than four feet by four feet, it can make room for even the tightest of spaces. Despite its smaller size, it feels very open; you can thank the glass front wall and skylight for that. It has two types of heaters that pump out full and far spectrum infrared heat, which can get hot if you like. (Far infrared covers a narrow range of longer infrared wavelengths that penetrate deep into the body and are not very hot. Full spectrum infrared includes a wider range of wavelengths that includes far infrared as well as the near and mid infrared, and can provide a wider range of benefits than far infrared alone.) You can personalize your color therapy experience – each Sanctuary model includes ninety-six LEDs with twelve color options.

  1. The infrared sauna for movement

The Y Sanctuary is made for those who want to move. (The “Y” stands for “yoga”). Sure, you can hang out on the two benches with some friends. Or you can remove the benches entirely, they are light enough to move easily, spread out a mat and stretch, roll foam, or lower the dog to your heart’s content. What We Highly Recommend: Heat has a way of breaking the stiffness and getting you out of your head and into your body. This model includes full and far spectrum infrared and the full set of color therapy lights.

  1. The least intensity
    Infrared sauna

Clearlight Premier models use only far infrared heat, which is a milder experience than full spectrum infrared heat. The three-seat layout of the Premier IS-3 is perfect if you like to go to the sauna with one or two friends, or if you prefer to relax a bit. Imagine lounging lengthwise on the bench while enjoying the warmth, with your back against the wall and your legs propped up with a much-loved paperback.

  1. The backyard infrared sauna

If you don’t have space to work around the house, but have a spot in your yard where you can imagine yourself sweating (with a view, maybe?), The Sanctuary Outdoor 5 could be a great option. It’s built into a wooden cabin designed to withstand the elements, and floor-to-ceiling double-pane glass windows help block heat without obstructing your line of sight. There’s plenty of room to recline on this one, it seats five, and the bench doubles as a recliner too. (This one has a limited warranty on the exterior cab, but all interior parts are warranted for life.)
