While the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic hits France and a third wave threatens the post-holidays, the update on Covid-19 with figures from Public Health France.
This Saturday, December 26, the health authorities recorded 3,093 new cases of contamination. That is a total of 2,550,864 confirmed cases since the start of the epidemic. The drop in the number of cases detected is explained by the fact that December 25 is a public holiday and that many laboratories have remained closed. These data should therefore be put into perspective, especially since, the day before, more than 20,000 positive cases had been recorded.
The test positivity rate is 3.1%, against 3.4% the day before.
7,720 new hospitalizations were recorded over the last 7 days, including 1,096 in intensive care.
146 people have succumbed to Covid-19 in hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 62,573 since the start of the epidemic, including 43,378 in hospital.
2,335 clusters were under investigation as of December 21, including 839 in nursing homes.
