COVID-19: drive-ins will be reborn in Quebec city this summer

COVID-19: des ciné-parcs renaîtront à Québec cet été

In the absence of the summer activities usual, the City is working to put in place three drive-ins free – center, to the east and to the west of the territory – from the end of June. The site of ExpoCité will be considered in priority.

This is what the mayor of Quebec city has made it known Wednesday afternoon press briefing. “I think that families would love. I arrange for there to be some popcorn”, he blagué.

Even if he said he was “optimistic” about the implementation of this project, Régis Labeaume, has ensured that nothing would be done without the agreement of the authorities of the public health.

“The City wants to open a few sites for drive-ins as of the end of June, and this, for the whole summer, in order to entertain the citizens. Working the folder, in partnership with the Festival of cinema of the city of Quebec, it considers as a priority the site of ExpoCité. It also looks at other sites, subject to the approval of the government authorities”, a-t-on announced by way of press release.

Street cleaning

Questioned further, the cleaning of streets, the mayor promised that it would be made from may 4, on main arteries and collector roads, and then in the commercial streets. “Clean up the streets, it’s complicated,” he admitted, in speaking of the freezing problems and the lack of parking spaces in certain districts. “I know that it is dirty. I walk on the garnotte”, he confessed.

The bicycle network will be totally open from the 22nd may, he promised.

Help traders

On the other hand, the City received 125 applications for financial assistance of traders since Monday, the day of launch of the program of $ 20 million. Most of the SMES have requested the maximum assistance of$ 50,000.

However, the mayor Labeaume has warned that the aid would be capped between$ 10,000 and$ 12,000 per company to allow a maximum of them to earn funds. It has also prompted traders to drop quickly back to their folder.
