    Covid-19 in France: 252 deaths and nearly 20,000 contaminations in 24 hours

    At the end of a particularly trying year, marked by an epidemic which does not weaken, the French health authorities identify 19,927 new infections with SARS-#CoV-2 this Thursday, December 31.

    The day before, the number of cases recorded was 26,457, but this figure included “the catching up of data from Tuesday which could not be integrated”, had underlined Public Health France.

    The health agency also reports 252 deaths linked to Covid-19 that have occurred in the hospital in the last 24 hours. Since the start of the epidemic, the total number of deaths in France has reached 64,634, a figure which takes into account the patients who died in nursing homes.

    24,407 hospitalizations

    Public Health France also reports 24,407 hospitalizations in progress. Some 1,317 new patients have been hospitalized since Wednesday.

    Among the people treated in hospitals, 2,625 patients suffering from severe forms of Covid-19 require support within the intensive care unit.

    A figure down since the start of the week: these patients were 2,652 on Wednesday and 2,666 on Tuesday. Over the past 24 hours, these specialized services have welcomed 177 new patients.
