COVID-19: not enough masks in Quebec to make them mandatory

COVID-19: pas assez de masques au Québec pour les rendre obligatoires

There is not enough masks available in Québec, currently, that the government Legault imposes the wearing of the covering face in public places.

François Legault does not take refuge behind the legal provisions to explain that the authorities refuse to make compulsory the wearing of mask in public. It is the scarcity of masks, which is at the origin of this government’s position.

“This is to ensure that the masks you have are first to the health care staff. If, in the next few days, and we’re working hard, there are enough masks and that one is able to give all those who use public transport, then we can have the discussion. But unfortunately, currently, even if one works very hard, there is not the availability of the million masks of which we would need it,” admitted the prime minister to the national Assembly, Wednesday, on the occasion of the first question period since the start of the confinement.

The opposition asks that the cover face is mandatory in public places and public transport, especially in Montreal, where the contamination is important.
