Russia is one of the first in the list of countries by number of “honourable donors”. People who made more than 40 donations of blood or more than 60 donations of plasma. “My grandfather was a physician and surgeon. He operated and was faced with when blood is not enough. His wife, my grandmother, my mother, my uncle, we are all honorary blood donors,” said the honourable donor of Russia Dmitry Sokolov.

“I passed the tests and knowing how rare is it, I thought I have to pass and help people though so. It takes 15 to 20 minutes. No side effects, maybe a little dizzy,” said the donor Vladislav Teterin.

Russia is one of the leaders in the world in number of donors – 900 thousand people. In a year, they give 120 million doses of the blood and blood components – leukocytes, platelets, and plasma.

The donor room is equipped with a special centrifuge to separate blood. This is the most important and time-consuming procedure – the collection of platelets. These cells are necessary for the patients before and after chemotherapy or lack of their cells.

Someone else’s blood saved and each day continues to save 19-year-old Alla. A year ago the girl was diagnosed with lymphoma – a cancer of the lymphatic system. During this time she underwent six cycles of chemotherapy.

“Blood transfusion about four times, I guess. Platelets are probably the same, and the plasma separately needed to recover the indicators,” said a patient of blood transfusion of the clinical hospital No. 52 Alla Yurina.

At the hospital, the girl met with their donors personally. Now wants to recover and to donate blood to help others.
