The United Nations said that in the fighting in Eastern Ukraine, 1.5 million of Ukrainians faced the threat of hunger
Such information was published by the world food programme (WFP), reports the UN news center.
In addition, according to WFP, about 300 thousand Ukrainians suffer from severe shortages of food and need urgent assistance.
The world food programme also intends in the first half of this year on a monthly basis to provide assistance 270 thousand people from the most vulnerable categories of the population.
“The conflict still continues and we must do everything in order to, as quickly as possible to get to these people. We call on all parties to the conflict to ensure full and unhindered humanitarian access to people in need of food,” – said the representative of the WFP in Ukraine Giancarlo Stopponi.
The organization also added that the most acute food shortages experienced by the inhabitants beyond the control of the government of Ukraine districts of Luhansk region and settlements along the “line of conflict”.
