At least five people were killed and 10 reported missing after floods and landslides caused by continuing from the end of last week, downpours in some provinces of the Northern part of Vietnam. It is reported by the national coordinating Committee for combating consequences of natural disasters in Vietnam.
Most significantly from the flood affected province of Lai Chau, Lao Cai and ha Giang. They flooded hundreds of homes, destroyed dams, bridges and significant sections of road. Disrupted transport links across the North West region. Also in some areas of flooded agricultural land, knocked out power lines and communications.
According to preliminary estimates, caused by natural disasters material damage amounted to more than 56 billion VND (about $2.5 million).
In the affected provinces have conducted extensive restoration work. The Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc has demanded from the authorities to strengthen control over the flood situation and to take all measures to return the population to normal living conditions.
