According to police, the arrested 308 people
BUENOS AIRES, October 19. /TASS/. At least 160 people, including 156 guards, were injured during protests in the Chilean capital. This was announced on Saturday by the police of the Republic in Twitter.
“Hit 156 policemen, five of them received severe injuries. The authorities have information about 11 victims among the civilian population”, – stated in the message.
According to police, the number of detainees has reached 308 people.
The protests that escalated into riots and clashes with police began in Santiago on Monday after the cost of the subway fare rose by an average of 30 pesos ($0,04) up to a maximum of 850 pesos (us$1.2). The rioters caused damage to several metro stations and burnt at least 10 buses.In the current situation the country’s President Sebastian Pinera announced in the capital a state of emergency.
