EYE ROLL: CNN’s Biden Town Hall was exactly how you expected

On Wednesday night, President Biden was granted the second town hall of his presidency (with the first in february and the third in the past year) for its beloved fanboys and girls on CNN and unsurprisingly, the Jeffrey Zucker-run network made sure the 80-minute event was little more than a foot rub (or the smell of hair. , since that suits him). luxurious).

Along with an eight-to-three split between the Democratic and Republican audience interrogators, CNN tonight Host Don Lemon repeatedly inserted himself to try to help Biden, push him from the left, and deliver just one real challenging moment.

The most notable audience question and Lemon’s interjection came with the eighth question, as Cory Marcum (who was probably a Democrat, though Lemon never gave him a label) received applause when asked if he was “It makes sense to get rid of obstructionism so that we can protect our democracy and ensure the right to vote.” before the Republican Party “Efforts to Restrict Voting Rights”.

The far-left CNN host took this opening and followed it, channeling Joy Reid by lecturing Biden. “Jim Crow Relic” and honor “People who fought and died” to ensure that people of all races can vote because electoral integrity proposals allegedly go back to asking black voters to guess beans in a jar or soap bubbles (click “expand”):

LEMON: But let me … let me tell you about that because …

BIDEN: Let me finish my answer because I would tell you what I would do, I would go back to that where you have to keep the floor. You have to stand there and speak and keep the word. You can’t just say it now.

LEMON: – I understand. But what difference does that make if you keep speaking for a day or a year, what difference does it make? Here’s the thing for me. You talked about people and this is important to people who look like me. [APPLAUSE] My grandmother used to sit when I was a kid, fifth grade, had a fifth grade education. I learned that she couldn’t read when she was doing my homework. He told me stories of people asking him to count the number of jelly beans in the jar.

LEMON: – or the soap in – so why protect obstructionism, is that more important than protecting voting rights, especially for the people who fought and died for it?

LEMON: But isn’t that the only way you’re going to do it right now?

BIDEN: No, I don’t think so. I think we can do it.

LEMON: If you, if you agree with the former president, you have called, as you called him, his old boss, who is a Jim Crow relic.

BIDEN: It is.

LEMON: If it’s a Jim Crow relic, it has historically been used to fight civil rights legislation. Why protect it?

Go back to the beginning and the event started with two questions from Lemon and two more from audience members (one from each party) about the coronavirus pandemic and vaccines.

In chronological order, the first big questions came next, as a Democrat wanted to know how Biden was doing. “Working to convince” people from the black community “That the vaccine is safe.”

Whether or not CNN knew about it, that question probably surprised viewers, as they probably thought that only right-wing Americans had rejected vaccines.

Lemon and Biden continued to joke about vaccines, but two of the next three questions were from Republicans and astutely pointed to sources of concern in our economy (click “expand”):

DANIELLE LIPPI [Republican]So my question is that the economy is recovering significantly as the pandemic reopens. Are you worried about rising prices from inflation, especially since we see gas, car and food prices rising rapidly? What is your administration doing to help prevent the economy from overheating so that the poor and the middle class are not hurt by higher property prices in the long run?

JOHN LANNI [Republican]: We employ hundreds of hard-working team members throughout the state of Ohio and across the country. And we are looking to hire more every day as we try to restart our restaurant business. The entire industry, among other industries, continues to struggle to find employees. How do you and the Biden administration plan to incentivize those who have not yet returned to work? Hiring is our top priority right now.

In Lanni’s case, Biden spent the next five minutes ridiculing him and the restaurant industry as something out of Upton Sinclair. The jungle, hinting that he will be out of business if he and his colleagues refuse to pay workers at least $ 15 / hour in prior tips. Oh, and Biden suggested that Lanni was ungrateful because we “kept him open” with “billions of dollars” in aid.

It was here that Lemon pushed back, reminding him that Lanni owns 39 restaurants and is therefore willing to put a lot of people to work.

Among those questions, there was another Democrat and she said she was “Dismayed at how often Democratic plans for … are held hostage by the utopian need for bipartisan support.” and urged Biden to realize that “Abandon[ing] the need for bipartisanship “ it is “The right answer.”

Skipping a Democrat’s concern about a bridge across Kentucky and Ohio and the obstructionist question, Lemon used the ninth hearing question (from another Democrat) on gun violence to help Team Biden by giving the president the next 10 minutes of screen time to dwell on him and his administration is concerned about rising crime, supports police officers and opposes #DefundThePolice efforts.

The penultimate question from the audience was possibly the most unbiased as a woman shared that her son had died from a drug overdose involving fentanyl and wanted to know what the federal government would do to “combat the problem of illegal opiates, many of which are which our young people buy. ” online.”

Offering his two cents, Lemon introduced Biden’s corrupt son Hunter into the equation, praising the president for having “I’ve been very open about your son Hunter’s addiction problem.”

“I am very proud of my son. My son just wrote a book on how he overcame addiction, and he did it, and he’s doing it and he’s in good shape, thank God. ” hey replied.

The final question from the audience was an immigration question from, you guessed it, another Democrat and it hit him from the left urging him to allow Guatemalans into the country.

Lemon took the opportunity to praise a baseball at DREAMers and then close the night with a baseball on being in office for six months (click “expand”):

I want to talk to you about DACA. I have two questions about immigration, quick questions that I want to ask you because last week, there was a federal judge who ruled that the program was illegal and prevented you from accepting new applications. What do you say to DREAMers who are really worried about their future here in the United States?

Mr. President, you have been the great man for six months in the White House. Can you take us behind the scenes, something that was extraordinary or unusual that happened and that catches your eye?

Like my boss Tim Graham tweeted then there is a necessary conclusion to all of this: “HOW are these people teaching Fox about being licked off a president?”

In fact, boss. Of course.
