False alert of coronavirus at the Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis

The managers of the Hotel-Dieu de Lévis had feared a moment of time to observe the first case of coronavirus detected in quebec, during the last week.

A patient presented to the hospital under the responsibility of the CISSS Chaudière-Appalaches, presenting worrying symptoms in the eyes of the nursing staff.

“There are assessment tools at the yard. If there is fever, the cough, and that the person who went to China [in the past four weeks], they did not take chance and put the person under investigation,” says the chief communications officer of the CISSS Chaudière-Appalaches, Genevieve Dion.

No risk has been taken in this case: the person potentially infected has been placed under surveillance, and samples have been forwarded to the public health Laboratory of Quebec. The results were communicated to the hospital the next day.

“It turned out to be negative,” says Geneviève Dion.

The symptoms of coronavirus can be confused with other viruses that are more during the winter, including the flu, ” says Ms. Dion.

Only two cases of coronavirus have been detected in Quebec up to now, is a 75 year old male and a 73-year old woman. The couple was on a cruise to Japan when the virus has been contracted. It is unclear when they will be able to return to the country because of the infection.

Since the beginning of the crisis of the virus COVID-19, about 1700 people died. Some 68 000 people have been infected, the virus occurring mainly in China in the Hubei province.
