It would be unfair and even foolish, to expect the Russian Vasili Demchenko as the next star of the Montreal canadiens. However, several guards and europeans have made their mark in the national hockey League (NHL), over the past 15 years, without ever having been recovered.

#1 – Sergei Bobrovsky



The Russian Sergei Bobrovsky arrived in the NHL with the Flyers during the 2010-2011 season. He was 22 years old and came to play a few seasons with the Metallourg of Novokouznetsk, in the continental hockey League (KHL). If the Philadelphia-based organization has thought good to exchange it for the Blue Jackets against a few choices at the draft in June 2012, it is precisely in Columbus that “Bob” has established itself as one of the best in his profession. The guardian Russian has won the trophy Vezina twice (2013 and 2017). Since his arrival in the national League, Bobrovsky has relished 278 wins in the regular season, he who now wears the colors of the Panthers of Florida.

#2 – Jonas Hiller



The guardian switzerland’s Jonas Hiller is going in his native country, for the club of Davos, when the Ducks of Anaheim have made use of his services. He was 25 years old at the time of play his first game in the NHL, the September 30, 2007, in a party made in Prague, in the Czech Republic. Hiller has played more than 400 matches in the circuit Bettman, of which 326 with the Ducks. He has also participated in classical stars, in 2011.

#3 – Antti Niemi



Many will remember the end of his career as an assistant with the Canadian. However, the Finn Antti Niemi has been a stay unexpected in the NHL. He played in his native country, with the Pelicans of Lahti, when he was hired by the organization of the Chicago black hawks prior to the 2008-2009 season. Niemi has lifted the Stanley cup with the Hawks in 2010 before defending the colours of five more teams. He mainly played for the San Jose Sharks.

#4 – Niklas Backstrom



Even if his career has been marked by some injury, the course of the Finnish Niklas Backstrom is worthy of mention. He was 28 years old when his debut in the national hockey League with the Wild in Minnesota in 2006-2007. His performance with the club, Karpat, in Finland, had opened her doors. In 51 games, Backstrom had managed 10 white games and presented an average goals allowed of 1.68 and an efficiency rate of ,940 in the previous season.

#5 – Antti Raanta



Also a native of Finland, Antti Raanta is still developing in the NHL, either with the Coyotes in Arizona. In 33 games this season, he has maintained an efficiency rate of ,921. Prior to joining the Coyotes, Raanta has worn the uniform of the Blackhawks and New York Rangers. Notably, he was the assistant of veteran Henrik Lundqvist with the Rangers. Today 30-year-old Raanta had 24 when he made the jump to North America.

Honorable Mention to Pavel Francouz :



The rookie of the Colorado Avalanche Pavel Francouz is the most recent european guardian to report on later. Interesting fact: the Czech 29-year-old has shared the net with Vasili Demchenko, the newcomer of the Canadian in the KHL then they were all two for the Traktor Chelyabinsk.
