On the 5th of February, around 1000 leaders from the fields of politics, economy, science and the health of the region gathered to attend the benefit show Love-humor, during which the singer and composer Liana Bureau and comedian Peter MacLeod have offered a benefit.
The show was presented by the Foundation for seniors and social innovation (DO). On this occasion, $ 100,000 was collected. This money will enable the Foundation to continue its mission, which is to contribute to improving the health and quality of life for vulnerable seniors living at home or in the accommodation centre, as well as to promote their social inclusion. The money raised during this evening will also be used to support innovative research projects carried out by the Centre of care research and front-line services –University Laval.
The event was co-chaired by mr. Denis Laforest, directeur general of the Caisse Desjardins de Québec and Dr. Jean-Pierre Després, scientific director of the Centre for research on the care and front-line services –University Laval. “Despite the fact that we carry out in Québec and at Université Laval of the research are internationally recognized in the areas of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and of their prevention by the way of life, never Quebecers have been so sick and the afflicted in these diseases,” said Dr. Després. In spite of the fact that the science of prevention exists, our work has shown that it is rarely applied in us. And this science, it is strong : from birth until death, the physical activity regularly is by far the best medicine for preventing a lot of chronic diseases that are saturating the capacity of our system of disease management, making budgets for the so-called “health” a drain on the economy without a base. “
