A 33-year-old Danville woman experienced a night of horror when a stranger who came to her home attempted suicide after being sequestrated and sexually assaulted.
A ntoni Bergeron was accused Tuesday at the Sherbrooke courthouse of multiple acts before the judge Hélène Fabi of the Court of Quebec.
It was in response to an ad placed on the Kijiji site that the abuser came to the home of the victim.
Bergeron, whose residence address is Lévis, reportedly came to Danville’s home where there was a room to rent.
Charges of attempted murder by attempting to drown his victim, sexual assault using a weapon, sexual assault causing injury, kidnapping, vehicle theft and various items belonging to the victim were laid.
Criminal Prosecutor Joanny Saint-Pierre opposed the release of Bergeron.
Defense attorney Benoit Gagnon of legal aid delivered the file on December 8th.
“I want to point out to the court that my client is appearing 36 hours after his arrest. His rights were not respected in this sense, “explained Gagnon in court.
