The actress Marianne Fortier, that one could discover in the film “Aurora” when she was only 10 years old, already celebrates 15 years in the business. His career is now well established, she wishes to explore new avenues and to go where we do not expect it. His role in the thriller “The breach”, in which she plays a young woman rebel, is a step in the right direction.
Marianne, what can you tell us about your character in “The flaw”?
When I auditioned for the role of Raphaelle, the key phrase for me was “femme fatale”. It is a charming girl and smart. We feel a certain danger in it, but it is insidious, it is not clear… We don’t always understand why she acted in such or such way, and we don’t know if she’s telling the truth or not. It is very close to Anthony (played by Noah Parker, ED.), who is a little younger than herself, and again we don’t know what his intentions are about it.
You’ll rarely see in this type of role. Usually, you play girls nice, no?
It is true, and I’m happy with this change. This role has allowed me to tap into places where I had never gone until now, this has been very interesting. Often, I project the image of a little girl wise, but I am not that much. I would like to get a role of ugly or “badass” to break this image. I am very motivated to show that I can play in a any other registry. I am 26 years old, and I sometimes play characters who have 17 or 18 years of age. It is fun, but I also want to play women of my age. At the same time, I know that it will happen one day and that this will be so for the rest of my life, so enjoy both roles youth as they pass.
Are you doing this job since childhood. What is it that you had her in front of the projectors?
It was really a coincidence. I made my first steps in cinema in the skin of the little Aurore, but, before that, at the age of five years old, my mother, who has a background in music, made me sing in a musical. I watched the people around me on the stage, and I told myself that I wanted to do that!
You talked of the movie “Aurore”. This shoot you have it marked?
Yes, but in a positive way. I had of the scenes which are sometimes difficult to turn, but I was well surrounded and I explained everything. I especially loved it to the point to still make this trade today. I was 10 years old when I played this role. Several people said that it did not make sense to play such a character so young, but I was not traumatized. I felt good on this set!
Is it during this shoot that has confirmed your desire to do this business?
Yes, of course. Let’s say that the fact of playing a role if marking has allowed me to make my entrance through the front door. Especially that the team had spent thousands of girls audition for this role. By turning this movie, I got the bug for this business.
You’re an actress for over 15 years. What are you most proud of?
I am proud to have been of beautiful roles, both in cinema and television. I think of movies like “Dawn”, “Mommy is at the hairdresser” and “barefoot in the dawn”, or even, on series such as “Jeremiah”, “For Sarah” and “Tomorrow men”. I am also particularly proud to have participated in the play “Romeo and Juliet” at the TNM. I played the Juliet to my generation, and it makes me happy, even if it has been a huge challenge. It was a great chance to do that!
Is there a character that you cherish most?
I have to say that Chloe, in “Tomorrow men”, has been a landmark for me, because it was the first time I played a girl who wasn’t like me. She had piercings from different Body Piercing Jewellery Suppliers, tattoos… She had her little character and does not let anyone impose. When I learned that there would be no second season, I had a mourning to do.
Is there an aspect of the job that you like least?
No. Same that, unlike many, I like the process of the hearings. It is stressful and difficult, but I love these exchanges, it makes me grow. I see each audition as a small training. I like to have to prove anything to get a role.
Would you like to try your luck in the United States or in Europe?
Yes. I don’t have a specific plan, but I’d like to go see what is done elsewhere. I know that this is very different from one place to another, and that one is pampered, in the province of Quebec, but, as I’m curious, I’d like to turn to the stranger and to live other experiences.
Have you ever thought of doing anything else?
Yes. At a certain point, I wanted to reaffirm my choice to be an actress. I started very young, so I wanted to be sure it was what I wanted to do. I made a tray in the cinema and I studied direction of photography. I did so not really far from my job, but just that, it allowed me to confirm that being an actress was what I wanted to do in life.
Would you like to go behind the camera?
I will test the ground for some time and the direction of photography interest me, but when I’m behind the camera and I see the actors work, I envy them and I constantly think about the game. My first passion is really acting. I tell myself that I don’t need that much of a plan B, because I am in my plan A.
You’re very discreet about your private life. What is Marianne when she’s not shooting?
I do a lot of things, but, lately, I’ve started to take up boxing. It has been quite a revelation. It allows me to let off steam.
