It is reported that by the time of arrival of firefighters the flames engulfed the tower, it was partially collapsed, reports Rus.Media.

The tower was one of the most famous buildings of the city and was among the five tallest wooden towers in Germany.

Wooden tower 22 meters high was built on the southern outskirts of the native city of Goethe – Frankfurt / main in 1867, but by the end of the First world war it had become dilapidated, it was dismantled.

In 1931, before the centenary of the death of the poet was erected a 43-meter tower, which became one of the highest sightseeing points of the city.
