Since January 1, new free and reduced-price subscriptions have been available for taking Lyon public transport. More than 130,000 people in precarious situations could benefit from it.
During the last municipal elections, the ecological president of the metropolis of Lyon Bruno Bernard announced the establishment of a solidarity measure concerning public transport.

The elected representative kept his promise since since January 1, Lyonnais in a situation of great precariousness can benefit from new free and reduced prices for getting around town.
Fight against poverty
These solidarity subscriptions aim to make public transport more accessible. The first subscription is completely free and allows you to travel throughout the city without paying. It is reserved for Lyonnais in a situation of great poverty such as beneficiaries of the RSA, the disabled or the elderly who receive the minimum old age.
In total, 130,000 Lyonnais could benefit from it.

The second subscription costs 10 euros per month and can be used by unemployed people under 25 and high school and college scholarship holders.
This new tariff could be used by 70,000 Lyonnais. The beneficiaries of these new measures have received information by mail, and it is already possible to obtain their new pass to take transport.
An environmental gesture
While making this gesture of solidarity, Bruno Bernard also hopes to limit pollution in the city. The municipality has said that public transport fares will not increase this year. The objective is to encourage city dwellers to favor travel by public transport rather than by car.

For some time now, the city of Lyon has followed an environmental approach to limit its pollution. The number of cars authorized to drive in cities has been reduced, and zones of low CO2 emissions, where traffic is less important, have been created.
A new shuttle has also been made available to access Lyon city center.
