Dmitry Peskov said that the port of Kerch could adjust the NAV, based on weather conditions
Moscow. 29 Nov. – The Kremlin said that the Kerch Strait remains open for navigation, including for Ukrainian ships.
On a question of journalists, whether there are any restrictions for the passage through the Strait of Kerch for Ukrainian courts, the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov said: “I am not aware that any restrictions now exist.”
“On the contrary, we know that the Kerch Strait is in normal mode. You know that sometimes weather conditions the port of Kerch, which plays the role of the administration, can make decisions on the regulation of navigation”, – said Peskov.
The conflict in the Kerch Strait
On 25 November, Russian border guards with weapons detained in the Kerch Strait tug “Yana Kapu” and two small armored artillery boat “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol”, on their way from Odessa to Mariupol through the Black sea and the Azov sea. The ships were escorted to Kerch. 24 detained Ukrainian military sailor, three of them wounded.
In Kiev, the actions of the Russian border guards consider inappropriate. According to the authorities of Ukraine, Russia violated the UN Convention on the law of the sea and the agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on cooperation in using the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait.
On November 27 the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the Russian government has adopted increased security measures in the Kerch Strait with regard to the situation in Ukraine and threats against the Kerch bridge.
