A new round of strategic dialogue between the United States and Russia will be held in the near future – us assistant Secretary of state.
The U.S. Undersecretary of state for political Affairs David Hale said that Washington is ready to cooperate with Moscow if it would not be contrary to American interests.The United States does not seek confrontation with Russia and are open to cooperation when it is in the interests of Washington. This was stated on Tuesday at a hearing of the foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Undersecretary of state for political Affairs David Hale.
“We do not seek a confrontational relationship with Russia. We are open to cooperation with Moscow, when it meets our interests and the interests of our allies. However, the administration of [the United States] will protect our national security and the security of our allies in the Moscow’s attempts to put her under threat,” he said.
“The state Department is also in favour of bilateral cooperation with Russia when it meets our interests, including when it comes to stabilization of our relations to the United States could meet its key priorities in the sphere of national security. We support with Russia, the channels of communication on Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine, North Korea, arms control, terrorism and other bilateral issues,” said Hale.
According to the diplomat, Washington adheres to a “realist” approach to Moscow and finds it “a strong and enterprising opponent,” which, in his opinion, has “significant and systemic economic weaknesses”.
