Dads in Ukraine can “Shine” maternity leave for child care.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a bill that would allow young parents to sit in on maternity leave. 10-day paid leave after the birth of the child to the father. This was reported on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
In the Parliament initiated a draft law “On introducing amendments to article 17 of the Law of Ukraine “On leave”. As stated on the website of the Parliament, it is sponsored by 13 MPs, among them Oksana Bilozir, Victor Krivenko, Elena Ledovskikh, Leong Yemets, Pavel Keskar, informs Rus.Media.
The deputies are convinced that this innovation will allow the faster men to get used to the role of the father, to adapt to situations that may arise in the presence of a newborn baby. In addition, maternity leave for the father will allow for some time to alleviate the plight of mothers and women it is easier to move the first days of motherhood, as it will support.
The main purpose of the bill is to improve the tools of family policy to ensure equal opportunities childcare.
As stated in the explanatory Memorandum to the bill, according to a study of the international organization Save the Children, Ukraine is on 78 place among countries in terms of maternal comfort. The possibility of obtaining of such leave is provided for in the legislation of many European countries, specifically: Norway provides two weeks of additional fully paid leave to the father, to be with family after the birth of a child. In Iceland, according to law, the person who has had a child may obtain leave for three months along with a woman. At this time he shall be paid an allowance of 80% of his average earnings. In the UK the father has the right to spend up to two weeks with child with full pay up to 90%. Portugal the law requires the father to spend with the child 5 days per paid maternity leave. For violation of his duty to the father is subject to a fine. Thus, the legislation of these countries contributes to parents were with the child in the first months of his life. to ensure availability of equal opportunities of newborn care.
Despite this, there is a need at the legislative level to ensure the availability of men to receive ten days of paid leave in connection with birth of a child.
