Deputies of the State Duma at plenary session on Tuesday, June 18, endorsed a bill introduced by President Vladimir Putin about the suspension of Russia’s participation in the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty). The Federation Council will consider the document on the suspension of the INF Treaty at a meeting on June 26.
How severe will be the consequences of this decision, the correspondent of “MIR 24” said the political scientist, Professor of Moscow state University named after M. V. Lomonosov Andrei manoylo.
“The United States withdrew from the Treaty on the elimination of the smaller and medium range. Russia makes no sense to continue to fulfill its requirements unilaterally. Therefore, the State Duma approved the suspension of Russia’s participation in the INF Treaty and absolutely right in this decision,” – said manoylo.
According to the analyst, the negative consequences for Russia, it will not cause as policies aimed at termination of the agreement, began the United States.
“If not US policy to withdraw from this contract, he would be saved. But Washington did everything they could to destroy the Treaty. All the negative that could happen has already happened” – says the expert.
Manoylo also noted that the absence of such agreement between the two countries reflects the current state of Russian-American relations.
“The US is trying to free his hands in a new arms race and the production of new weapons. The Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range restrictive, it binds US, imprisons maneuver, so they got rid of him. It’s very sad, because the more of this kind of restrictive contracts, the higher is the guarantee that will not happen accident, because of which our country will slide into a state of war. Any such agreement in fixation of certain norms of international relations, the rules of the game, intentions to comply with them. The smaller of these contracts, the fewer obstacles for those of US in their attempt to break the rules. International relations and politics in General are unpredictable,” concluded Professor manoylo.
