Artificial intelligence is used in a large number of areas of our lives, and sometimes we can not even guess. It is constantly evolving and improving, and that’s fine. Perhaps the most frequently mentioned areas of artificial intelligence can rightly be considered as the development of technology of facial recognition. And if you remember, several years ago, the Corporation Facebook has concentrated a large amount of their efforts on development of this direction, however, in recent times in this field Facebook began to take the position, regularly covering various projects and developments.
And though we knew about the fact of work of the above technical giant on something related to face recognition, we have not had even the slightest idea of what working in the company. So it was exactly to this point, because there was credible information that finally reveals the eyes of at least one of the developments of the company. The new data source is a reputable news publication Business Insider, which published an article that said that in the period from 2015 to 2016 Facebook actively and even more successfully conducted activities to build a mobile application, which was used to identify employees of the Corporation in their faces.
At first, the company wanted this same, rather unusual application was used by only employees of the company to the internal forces to test and identify at this stage shortcomings. Well, after making the necessary corrections Facebook was going to release the app for all users. What exactly was the essence of development of the company? Was it that you had only just point the camera of your smartphone on the face of a person of your interest. This allowed us to know his name and see a picture of his profile (though it is not clear, we are talking about a profile in Facebook, or about the separate account, which was created in the app from scratch), and also find out any other information, which “scanned” the person you’ve shared.
But where it could be applied in addition to the large companies, Facebook? My head is only two use case scenarios. First – when you’re at a party or wherever it is met the person with whom you want to meet, and before that want to know it in more detail. Well, the second is to use a similar scanning method instead of passwords, movie tickets and so on. Anyway, it is not surprising that Facebook has decided to cover the development of this app, because, first, it would be difficult to find a really decent scope, and secondly, it would significantly undermine the level of confidentiality and protection of private life, because you could scan as your friend, and person you don’t trust.
