The 680 unionized employees of Jean Coutu's central warehouse in Varennes, Montérégie, learned this morning when they entered work that they were locked out, Le Journal learned .
“We learned this morning when we arrived that we were on lockdown. It is feared that the employer will open the door wide to subcontracting. Also that seniority is estimated is not respected, “lamented the Journal Audrey Benoît, President of the Union of Workers of the Jean Coutu Pharmacy warehouse (CSN).
According to the union, monetary is not in question. Instead, employees fear that Brunet's arrival in the Jean Coutu family will push the employer to use subcontracting and employment agencies.
Union members also say they are ready to negotiate with the employer to settle the labor dispute.
24 hour strike
Yesterday, after a 24-hour strike, the employer said it was disappointed to see unionized employees desert their workstations, insisting that their working conditions are already favorable.
“We are disappointed with the union's decision to go on strike when we have already agreed to many demands and the union has essentially stuck to its positions. To date, there are no concessions or setbacks for employees whose working conditions compare very favorably with those of all of the Jean Coutu Group 's competitors, ”said management.
