The pitcher of the Houston Astros Justin Verlander is planning to give his pay cheques on a weekly to works of charity in order to support them during the crisis caused by the pandemic of sars coronavirus.
Verlander has made the announcement alongside his wife, Kate Upton, in a video posted Saturday on Instagram.
“Around the world, people are affected by this virus. We want to help families, of those whose work has been affected, the health care workers, first responders and many others who have urgent needs that require medical equipment or help at home.”
Verlander and Upton will choose a different body each week and will show, on social networks, how it comes to help people in this difficult period.
The couple has also encouraged people to stay at home to stop the spread of the virus.
The winner of the trophy, Cy Young in the american League last season, Verlander should be paid a salary of $ 33 million in 2020.
However, according to an agreement between major league baseball and the players association, the players with a guaranteed contract will have a salary of 4775$ per day, for a total of 286 $ 500, during 60 days of cessation of activities.
