This is the fourth award in the field of safety IIHS for the brand in 2019, after the awards Top Safety Pick + for the ES, UX and NX.
The newly restyled Lexus RX 2020 model year received the award of Top Safety Pick from the IIHS. And, as with many vehicles that currently sustain the increasingly stringent requirements of the Institute of road safety, there is one caveat: the reward is applicable only to versions equipped with certain headlights.
This also was the reason that RX almost missed the maximum possible score Top Safety Pick +. IIHS evaluated the basic lights and one of the options premium lights, both static led projector — as acceptable, but he gave a bad grade to available adaptive led headlights, saying that they create too much glare.
On the other hand the RX has passed the crash tests, getting good grades in all areas. The IIHS says that for the first time had a small crash test luxury crossover on the passenger side, noting that Lexus has made changes to the design of the bumper and the front of the body to improve occupant protection in the front seats. He also gave an excellent assessment of the collision avoidance systems of the vehicle front wheels RX, which helped to avoid collisions when testing on the track at speeds of 20 and 40 km/h.
As RX350, the hybrid version 450h received a slight update, including the latest version of the Lexus Safety System +. the complex includes new features such as a daily cyclist detection and pedestrian detection in low light, adding to the existing pre-collision warning adaptive cruise control.
