Lufthansa would like to retake only the part “flights” Alitalia, without the maintenance, and keep only 6000 of the 8000 people employed in the branch that you are interested in.

Rome — German airline Lufthansa is favourite for the takeover of the national airline, Italian Alitalia, struggling, announced Thursday the Italian daily Corriere della sera.

“In regard to the future of Alitalia, the target destination seems to be Germany,” writes the principal Italian daily, even if ” the numbers are still not good, and the offer may be improved “.

The newspaper, which did not cite its sources, said that Lufthansa would like to retake only the part “flights” Alitalia, without the maintenance, and keep only 6000 of the 8000 people employed in the branch that you are interested in. The two ministers italians who follow this case, and that the three commissioners who manage Alitalia since it has been placed under guardianship, however, have been asked to halve this figure of 2,000 redundancies envisaged in the section ” flights “.

“The negotiations are ongoing and the two parties closer together,” says the journal, noting that the price offered by Lufthansa is also a problem. “The first offer of Lufthansa was € 300 million […] but the commissioners and the government are asking for up to $ 500 million. In this sector also, the positions move closer, ” says the Corriere della sera.

When asked about the company during a press conference to review the year, the head of the government of italy, Paolo Gentiloni, has not taken a decision on the details of the bids but warned that it would be necessary to make efforts from both sides. “I hope that the offers on the table can be improved, and that staff as the users will be shown a great sense of responsibility,” he said.

The company british low-cost EasyJet and the u.s. fund Cerberus Capital Management have also lodged bids for the partial takeover of Alitalia, but “Lufthansa is the solution that seems to offer the best guarantees in terms of financial strength,” says the Corriere della sera. The German company also offers ” the best prospects for industrial development in the medium term “, adds the Corriere.
