The Montreal Canadiens awarded a two-part, one-year contract to goaltender Michael McNiven on Wednesday.
The deal will be worth $ 700,000 to the 23-year-old if he plays with the big club. His salary will be $ 75,000 if he wears the uniform of the Rocket de Laval, in the American League.
McNiven has only played three games with the Habs subsidiary in 2019-2020, winning all of them. He played more in ECHL, with three different teams: the Adirondack Thunder, the Jacksonville Icemen and the Norfolk Admirals. He maintained a 9-11-2 record.
The Manitoban has yet to take part in a National League clash. This was the last year of his entry contract signed in 2015.
The Canadian has a few goalies who risk battling McNiven for a position at Laval, including Cayden Primeau and Vasili Demchenko. Charlie Lindgren still has a deal valid for a year.
