Медведчук: Зеленский не сделал выводов из ошибок предшественников в отношениях с НАТО

KIEV, October 31. /TASS/. The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, who on Thursday at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Kiev confirmed the country’s course towards membership in the Alliance, repeated the strategic mistake of its predecessors. This was stated by the Chairman of the political Council of the Ukrainian party “the Opposition platform For life”, the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Viktor Medvedchuk.

“The obsession of ex-President [Petro] Poroshenko to submit an application to receive the action Plan for NATO membership today, raises the banners “we-power” [the administration Zelensky] – said in his statement on the party’s website. – Unfortunately, President Zelensky did the findings of the strategic mistakes of his predecessor. Maniacal desire Poroshenko, Turchinov, Yatsenyuk, Parubiy and “join” Ukraine in NATO has led the country to split.”

Medvedchuk cited data from a survey of the Fund “Democratic initiatives”, which shows that membership in NATO supports only 41% of the population. “This suggests that in Ukrainian society there is no unequivocal support for the idea of joining the North Atlantic Alliance”, – said the politician. He added that the initiative about the movement of NATO “is dictated by the ongoing policy of flirting with the government with patriots and radicals and compromises reintegration of Donbass”.

“The President Zelensky, who a few days ago, declared that we need mentally to return people living in Donetsk and Luhansk, and talked about shared values, is doing everything in order to do the impossible return of Donbass in Ukraine and Ukraine at Donbass”, concluded Medvedchuk.Following the meeting of the Commission Ukraine – NATO with the participation of Jens Stoltenberg, and Zelensky Thursday in Kiev adopted a statement in which it confirmed the course of Ukraine to join the Alliance. According to the President of the country, Kiev is ready to cooperate more closely with NATO.
