Two goals quick in the first half helped Minnesota United FC defeated the Earthquakes of San Jose by the score of 4-1 on Saturday night in Orlando, and get his place in the semi-final of the tournament to return to the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Early in the game, Minnesota scored two goals in a minute. Robin Lod was first put on the needle at the 20th minute of play, picking a pass from the head of Jose Aja just in front of the net for the Earthquakes.
Jacori Hayes doubled the lead of his own by seizing on a loose ball in the rectangle of the goalkeeper Daniel Vega.
Having faced a total of 13 shots on target, the latter has not been idle and was able to keep his team in the game for a large part of the meeting.
Magnus Eriksson has given hope to the Earthquakes by touching the target on a penalty shot at the beginning of the second half. But Luis Amarilla replied six minutes later when a downhill one-on-one in enemy territory.
Marlon Hairston sealed the outcome of the match in the 86th minute, by diverting a pass from Hassani Dotson behind Vega.
In front of the net winners, Tyler Miller has pushed three of the four shots on target he has faced.
Minnesota will Orlando City SC in the semi-final of the tournament on Thursday. The local team had surprised the Los Angeles FC in the quarter-finals on Friday.
