More than 600 employees laid off at the University Laval

Faced with “a major decline in his income,” the University of Laval puts on temporary layoff more than 600 contract employees.

The impact of the closure of the campus and of the containment measures due to the pandemic of COVID-19 “is even more important for the units of self-financing of the institution, indicates the direction in an email sent to all employees Wednesday at the end of the day.

Contract employees covered by these temporary lay-offs originate from the following units: the office of events campus, the parking office, the directorate of students services, the clinic of the Faculty of dentistry, the services of the sports activities, the employment service, the service of photocopying and the services of the residences, which were occupied at 40%, according to figures dating from the beginning of April.

“We hope to be able to resume activities as quickly as possible,” said the vice-president, human resources, Lyne Bouchard.
