A24 has released the official trailer for their supernatural drama film, mutton, and it seems that the unconventional premise of the film wants to turn Mother Nature upside down.

Pert the official synopsis of the film, “A childless couple in rural Iceland makes an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They are soon faced with the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folk tale, director Valdimar Jóhannsson’s surprising debut. “. The film stars Noomi Rapace, Hilmir Snaer Gudnason, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, and Ingvar Sigurðsson.

Criticisms that emerged from the Cannes Film Festival suggest that the concept of mutton it’s so readily available that it shouldn’t go out of business before anyone else chooses to see it. It seems that this is a movie that is in the alley of A24, in the same arena as Hereditary, Midsommar, Y The witch. I read a more detailed breakdown of the movie’s premise in a review prior to writing this story and I can say that it sounds very out there and while the review revealed nothing beyond that, it does sound like a movie that will reward you. for playing the waiting game when the movie begins to explain itself.

Jóhannsson co-wrote the film with Sjón, and A24 acquired the North American distribution rights to the film earlier this month. The film premiered as part of the official selection at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section and will see its premiere in theaters on October 8, 2021.
